Recycling is the first step to reducing waste. It is a small, easy but essential step to minimizing your ecological footprint.
Here are a few basics on recycling in Brussels.
White, blue and yellow bags are available in most supermarkets and deli’s.
Blue bags: drink cans, aluminum receptacles, tins, metal caps, food spray-cans, plastic bottles, tetrapacs (milk and juice boxes).
Yellow bags: newspapers, magazines, books, envelops, cardboard, white and yellow pages.
White bags: non recyclables
Glass: You will find close to your home glass containers (white containers for uncolored glass and green containers for colored glass). Do not fill container with light bulbs, mirrors, neons, porcelain, pyrex or crystal.
Through the “Bruxelles Propreté” link we have provided, you can find out when waste is removed in your street by going to “vos jours de collectes”. Just insert your address and find out what days to take out your bags.
It is important to know that leaving your waste out on the wrong day or not recycling properly (putting glass in the bags, for example) can lead to fines from 62.5 Euros to 625 Euros. So, do the right thing and recycle!
